Machine Vision System Design
Like any automation component a machine vision system must provide consistent performance with a high degree of accuracy 24/7/365 under any normal conditions which may arise in the production environment.
Design of a successful machine vision requires a detailed understanding of the effect on the image and vision tools of factors such as:
- Variation in product positioning and/or orientation.
- Variation in ambient lighting conditions.
- Allowable variations in product appearance.
The software design, i.e., the choice, combination and interaction of vision tools used to perform the test/s must also take into account the effects of these factors.
A successful design must mitigate the effects of these by defining physical elements such as
- Lighting type, e.g., LED low angle, laser line projector.
- Optics, e.g., telecentric lens.
- Part handling requirements.
- Camera resolution.
