Wind speed 37 miles per hour
Wind direction Gusty

Test Procedure

  1. Two each thatch sections 1m x 1m
  2. One section treated with PCT Fire Retardant Technology in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
  3. Both sections placed at an angle of 35°.
  4. Simultaneous flame was induced by equal amounts of flammable solvent.
  5. Build and extension of fire was left until total burn out occurred.
  6. Retarding time of treated panel was recorded.

flame-after-2-minutes
After 2 minutes of combustion on the untreated test panel was obvious and burning was visible.
The treated test panel was showing signs of smoldering.
flame-after-6-minutes
After 6 minutes of combustion, the untreated test panel extended considerably and open flames were visible.
The treated panel showed signs of combustion.
flame-after-10-minutes
After 10 minutes exposure the fire had extended to the core of the untreated test panel and open flames was visible on both sides.
Combustion on the treated test panel was at a very slow rate with no signs of open flame.
flame-after-15-minutes
After 15 minutes of combustion the fire had extended to nearly the whole upper area of the test panel and severe flaming was visible.
Combustion on the treated panel has extended marginally and no open flame was visible yet.
flame-after-20-minutes
After 20 minutes the untreated panel was well alight and a collapse of the grass thatch was evident due to support failure. Extensive flaming and heat was generated.
The treated test panel was burning at a very slow rate.
flame-after-30-minutes
After 30 minutes the untreated test panel was close to an entire burn-out
Combustion on the treated test panel has extended and flames have burned through the core, to underneath the thatch
