Misty Valley Mountain Bike Community

The aim of our Misty Valley Mountain Bike Community is to make the adventures of mountain biking more accessible, exhilarating and more affordable.

Our Community is administered on a full-time basis and offers a host of mountain bike value adding services to our community members – some of our offerings are free to our members although some require a minor monitory investment in pleasure.

Skills Workshops

The better you can ride, the easier it is to perform at your personal best and the more you enjoy your mountain bike challenges! Mountain bike skills are part of your conditioning process – only by following the right technique, over time, will you grow confidence. We cater for all levels of bike skills development, from basic to, accomplished, competent and advanced skilled riders and cater specifically for individualized sessions – we focus on skills, not tricks! Our skills workshops are aimed at ensuring you can take-on any technical challenge with confidence!

Anticipatory response Sport Performance Coaching

Your brain controls ALL processes in your body, and uses your senses (conscious mind) as well as your sub-conscious mind as frame of reference. Your brain therefore serves as ultimate regulator that permits you to do whatever one intends doing. When taking part in an activity your brain continually refers to its frame of reference, compiled through your process of physical conditioning, guiding you through every moment of your activity. The process of conditioning which you use (to create a frame of reference for the brain) impacts dramatically on your success in achieving your goals as it goes hand-in-hand with physiological changes that should take place in your body. Creating an individualised project plan for ensuring a proper frame of reference for your brain is referred to as Anticipatory Response Coaching.

Our Anticipatory Response Coaching, based on the principle of anticipatory regulation by the brain, is packed into 12-week cycles. Each 12-week cycle is preceded by an evaluation of an athlete’s current level of conditioning and personal goals, thereby ensuring that no 2 athletes have the same programme.

Coaching include race season planning, race strategy, mental preparation, technical advice (regarding the equipment), skills development as well as nutritional planning and supplement planning.

Our goal with coaching advice is time optimisation, implying that we guide you to achieve more from less – quality vs quantity! Our athletes spend about ½ the time in the saddle compared to many others, with better results …

Body-bike set-up

Enjoying every bit of your cycling and improved performance is all about merging your body’s bio-mechanical variables and your bike’s geometry! We offer an extensively researched scientific biometric analysis and use the data obtained from that to do a dynamic body-bike fit! This is guaranteed to prevent over-use and to ensure optimised recovery – all equating to your personal best performance!

Mountain bike event management and timing

We host one of the biggest mountain bike XCO series in South Africa, taking place at various venues in the country. Our XCO series was used by the South African XCO Olympic team as preparation for the 2012 Olympics. Misty Valley Mountain Bike Park however is our preferred venue for hosting events as it offers an array of facilities not available anywhere else in the country. These events range from XCO races and 24-hour endurance events to XCM races and ultra events. We also have a professionally designed, developed and field tested electronic timing system we employ at our races, making sure our results are accurate and cater for exact participant needs.
