The shadeport industry was established in South Africa in 1982 in Kwa-Zulu Natal. It was the result of three damaging hailstorms causing extensive damage within a six-week period.

The need arose amongst homeowners, the motor trade, commerce and industry, for an alternative protection to the traditional  galvanised-sheeted carport. Protection was needed for vehicles, which would be cost effective as well as aesthetically pleasing at the same time. To satisfy these needs a shadeport structure was developed.

The operation was later relocated to Gauteng and focused on the manufacturing and erection of these structures. In 1995, management adopted the strategy to focus on the key sectors and development of the competencies needed in the different areas.

The present shareholders re-integrated the marketing and manufacturing operations in one company to better service our customers. Today Megashade Projects (Pty) Ltd is one of the leading suppliers of shadeports in Gauteng with an approximate 30% market share. We manufacture and erect cost effective, quality products and our aim is to obtain ISO 9002 accreditation.

Megashade also exports products to Africa.
