101 on South African Law

If you are among those who believe that they don’t need a lawyer then this article is just for you. We’re about to give you a few reasons as to why you may want to reconsider your stance when it comes to having legal council, as well as a few scenarios which you may find unwittingly find yourself in. Yes, South African Law can be a little pricey, however, there are affordable options that you can consider. One of your options is to become an international super star, and then have your entire court case televised and maybe, just maybe you’ll receive a get out of jail free card or perhaps just a lighter sentence. Not appealing? We didn’t think so. The second and better option is to find a reputable law firm that will stand by you through the draining process of a case and legal battle. The perfect example of one such draining case was the David and Goliath match of Nkosana Makate vs Vodacom. Makate took on the corporate giant on in court in a dispute over his invention, the “please call me” SMS.

Surely you remember it the case, how could you not, in this particular instance we witnessed the law work in favour of the average joe. Just in case you misssed the finer details, the gist of it was the fact that Nkosana created the “Please call Me” back in 2009 as an alternative method of contacting someone even without airtime. Nkosana Makate was promised a 15% share of the invention’s profits but received absolutely nothing from the R70 billion of profit accumalted by Vodacom. After almost ten years of throwing jabs back and fourth in court, Nkosana finally won his case.

Moral of the story is that you never know when you’ll need legal advice or even a legal representative. There are a number of reputable law firms out there that are willing and able to provide you with professional legal services at an affordable rate. Obviously, you will also be given the opportunity to select a payment option that is suitable for  your personal needs and budget.
